The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting tourism, arts, culture and creative initiatives capable of showcasing the State’s vibrant lifestyle and economic potential to a global audience.
The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, gave the assurance on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when she received a delegation of the Victoria Island Carnival on a courtesy visit ahead of the inaugural edition of the week-long event. The delegation was led by the Carnival’s Founder, Mr. Abiodun Ayorinde, and included Grand Patron, Mr. Princewill Utchay; Partner, Mr. Zayn Godwill; and veteran musician, Tee Mac.
The organisers briefed the Commissioner on the vision of the carnival, describing it as a major tourism and cultural initiative designed to celebrate Lagos’ distinctive character, while bringing together music, fashion, arts, food, hospitality, business and community engagement. The carnival is scheduled to hold from September 14 to 20, 2026, in Victoria Island.
Benson-Awoyinka commended the organisers for an initiative she said aligns with the State Government’s vision of using tourism, arts and culture to stimulate economic activity, create jobs and strengthen Lagos’ position on the global tourism and creative economy map. She noted that the State’s diversity and dynamism provide a strong foundation for tourism experiences capable of attracting visitors, investors and creatives.
The Commissioner assured the delegation of the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate within its mandate to ensure a successful and impactful carnival. She, however, urged the organisers to maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, organisation and presentation, stressing that events of such magnitude must reflect the quality and reputation associated with Lagos.
The organisers, in turn, expressed their commitment to delivering a world-class carnival that would create opportunities for local talents, businesses, hospitality operators, creatives and communities. The event is expected to attract tourists, investors, residents and creatives while promoting cultural exchange, entertainment and economic engagement.
