The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has disclosed that it successfully responded to 18 major emergency incidents across the state between June 14 and June 21, 2026, without recording any fatalities.
The agency made this known in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Afolabi Olawale, noting that the incidents ranged from road traffic accidents and fire outbreaks to tanker emergencies, container truck accidents and infrastructure-related failures.
According to the statement, emergency response teams were deployed to various locations across the state, including Obanikoro, Maryland, Okota, Mushin, Marina, Otedola, Ikeja Underbridge and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
LASEMA stated that no lives were lost in 17 of the 18 incidents recorded during the period. It added that one victim trapped in a 40-foot container accident at Maryland Roundabout on June 18 was successfully rescued alive, stabilised by emergency medical personnel and transported to Gbagada Orthopaedic Hospital for further treatment.
The agency attributed the successful outcomes to the coordinated efforts of its Cobra, Eagle, Sharks and Lagos Response Team units working alongside the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and community stakeholders.
Olawale revealed that a fire outbreak at a factory owned by COPACI Nigeria Limited in Okota was swiftly contained before it could spread to neighbouring facilities. He also noted that another fire involving a Mercedes-Benz vehicle within the premises of Polaris Bank in Marina was effectively extinguished through joint emergency operations.
The spokesperson further disclosed that heavy-duty cranes and recovery equipment were deployed to remove obstructions and restore traffic flow along key routes, including Challenge-Mushin, Obanikoro-Maryland, Otedola Bridge and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Speaking on the achievement, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, attributed the zero-fatality record to sustained investments in emergency response infrastructure, personnel training and operational equipment by the Lagos State Government.
“The consistency of zero-fatality outcomes across high-risk incidents in one week is not accidental. It is the product of deliberate investment in standards, training and equipment under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda,” he said.
LASEMA urged residents to promptly report emergencies through its toll-free lines and advised motorists to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and adherence to traffic regulations to reduce avoidable incidents.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to address recurring causes of emergencies, including deteriorating infrastructure and road-related hazards across the state.
