Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, has called for sustained reforms, strategic investment and stronger collaboration to build a justice system capable of supporting investment and economic growth.
Pedro made the call at the 2026/2027 Legal Year Summit in Lagos, themed “Justice as an Economic Infrastructure: Strengthening the Judiciary for Africa’s Fifth Largest Economy.”
He stressed that an efficient and accessible justice system is essential for protecting property rights, enforcing contracts, resolving disputes and strengthening confidence among citizens, businesses and investors.
The Attorney-General also advocated improved judicial infrastructure, human capital development and greater use of technology, including e-filing, digital case management and virtual proceedings. He urged the legal profession to adapt to emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, intellectual property and digital transactions.
Pedro further called for wider adoption of mediation, arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, while urging stronger collaboration among the Judiciary, Executive, Legislature, legal profession and business community to translate the summit’s discussions into sustainable reforms.
