Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has called for stronger collaboration between the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority, LASRERA, and the Estate, Rent and Commission Agents Association of Nigeria, ERCAAN, to address excessive charges and promote professionalism in the real estate sector.
Hamzat made the call on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the ERCAAN Breakfast Training and Business Parley for holders of LASRERA permits, held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Alausa, Ikeja.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Gbolahan Toriola, the Deputy Governor noted that Lagos’ growing population and continued influx of residents had increased demand for housing, with demand outpacing available supply.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government, real estate practitioners and other stakeholders to expand housing supply, improve affordability and ensure that charges within the sector remain reasonable.
Toriola also highlighted the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority Law, 2022, which provides a framework for regulating real estate practitioners and protecting members of the public from fraudulent practices.
He urged practitioners to comply with the law, obtain the required permits and maintain professional standards to promote transparency and accountability in the sector.
The Coordinating Director of LASRERA, ESV. Mrs. Temitope Akinbola, commended ERCAAN for organising the training, describing it as an avenue to strengthen professionalism and regulatory compliance among practitioners.
Akinbola warned that operating without complying with LASRERA’s regulatory requirements amounts to illegal practice in Lagos State.
She urged stakeholders to promote awareness of LASRERA registration and encourage practitioners, clients and members of the public to comply with established regulations.
