Lagos State has once again reinforced its position as a leading model for subnational governance in Africa, following its active participation at the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) Nigeria Subnational Alignment Meeting held in Kigali, Rwanda.
The strategic engagement, organised in collaboration with the House of Representatives Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, convened policymakers and development stakeholders to strengthen the alignment of national and subnational development frameworks with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Representing Lagos State at the meeting were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Establishments and Training and Lagos State Coordinator for AUDA-NEPAD, Oluwatoyin Atanda-Rufai, alongside Mrs. Afsat Lawal, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
Working closely with the Chairman of the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Billy Osawari, as well as AUDA-NEPAD state coordinators, commissioners and other stakeholders from across the country, the Lagos delegation shared valuable insights on aligning grassroots development initiatives with continental priorities.
Discussions in Kigali further highlighted the growing recognition of Lagos State’s governance and development model. Participants expressed keen interest in the state’s strategic planning framework, particularly the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, the Lagos State Development Plan (LSDP) 2052, and the Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS), which continue to drive inclusive and sustainable development.
The meeting also reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to promoting effective governance, strategic planning, and stronger collaboration in advancing the African Union’s development aspirations.Lagos’ impactful contribution at the Kigali meeting further strengthens its reputation as a continental leader in public sector innovation and sustainable development, while reaffirming its role in shaping Africa’s shared vision for growth, integration, and prosperity.
