The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, popularly known as the Taskforce, has impounded 66 commercial motorcycles for allegedly violating the state’s transport regulations.
The Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, disclosed this in a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, on Tuesday.
Akerele said the motorcycles were impounded during an enforcement operation conducted on Monday across parts of Lagos Island, including CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, Lekki-Ajah Expressway and the Lagos Coastal Road.
He said the operation was aimed at curbing illegal commercial motorcycle activities and restoring order on restricted routes.
The Taskforce chairman warned that future enforcement operations would also target passengers who violate the state’s transport regulations.
He added that impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through the courts in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
