The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents and combating Domestic and Sexual Violence (DSV) through continued investment in prevention, survivor support, public awareness and access to justice. As part of efforts to strengthen public awareness, the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, joined the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to champion the “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign, an initiative marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.
Speaking on the campaign, Agoro said the fight against domestic and sexual violence requires the collective efforts of government institutions, individuals and communities. He explained that turning Alausa purple goes beyond illuminating public spaces, describing it as a powerful statement of recognition, compassion and commitment to creating a safe environment where everyone is protected. He also urged public servants to play an active role by speaking up, supporting survivors and directing people affected by violence to appropriate support services.
As part of the campaign, public buildings, government offices and strategic locations across Alausa will be illuminated in purple, the recognised colour of the DSV awareness campaign. The visual display is expected to remind workers, visitors and residents that preventing domestic and sexual violence is a shared responsibility. The initiative aligns with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s vision of building a safer and more responsive Lagos where survivors can access the necessary support and residents are encouraged to speak out against violence and abuse.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign is intended to go beyond changing the appearance of the environment by sparking conversations and encouraging action. She urged public servants experiencing violence, as well as individuals who witness or suspect cases of abuse, to speak up and seek appropriate assistance. She also called on private organisations, the media, schools, communities and other stakeholders to support the campaign by promoting accurate information on prevention, reporting channels and available support services.
The “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign forms part of the broader activities organised by the Lagos State Government for the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month. Through the DSVA, the State Government remains committed to protecting residents, supporting survivors and strengthening systems that promote prevention, justice and accountability in the fight against Domestic and Sexual Violence.
