Workers’ unions across Lagos State-owned universities have issued the Lagos State Government a seven-day ultimatumto address their outstanding demands or face an indefinite strike.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC), comprising ASUU, NASU, SSANU and NAAT, announced the decision during a press conference at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo campus.
The unions are demanding the immediate implementation of the Federal Government’s agreements with university-based unions, effective January 1, 2026, as well as the payment of the ₦50,000 palliative promised by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to state workers on May 1, 2026.
According to the unions, while civil servants in the state have received the palliative, staff of Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions were excluded despite repeated engagements with government officials.
The affected institutions include Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM).
Speaking on behalf of the unions, ASUU-LASU Chairman, Prof. Ibrahim Bakare, said all peaceful efforts to resolve the issue through dialogue had failed, adding that members could no longer wait while other categories of public servants had benefited from the payment.
The unions warned that failure by the state government to meet their demands within the seven-day deadline would result in an indefinite industrial action, which could disrupt academic activities across the affected institutions.
