The Lagos State Government has advised motorists to expect partial traffic disruptions along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as rehabilitation works commence on the Kara Bridge from Tuesday, July 28.
According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Federal Ministry of Works will replace the bridge’s expansion joint in a project expected to last two weeks to enhance the bridge’s safety and durability.
As part of the repairs, the existing four-lane carriageway will be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch, creating a safe work zone for construction activities.
Motorists have been urged to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor.
The government also warned that moderate traffic congestion is expected around the Fatgbems Turn area as some motorists may make U-turns or seek alternative routes, although traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the area is expected to experience minimal disruption.
The advisory comes ahead of the 74th Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), scheduled for August 3 to 9, when vehicular movement along the expressway is expected to increase significantly.
Road users are advised to plan their journeys ahead, consider alternative routes where possible, and comply with all traffic advisories throughout the rehabilitation period.
