The trial of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha Lamido, over an alleged ₦1.35 billion fraud was adjourned on Monday after the lead defence counsel, Joe Agi (SAN), failed to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja due to medical reasons.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting the trio on a 37-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering, receipt of kickbacks, and fictitious contract awards said to have occurred during Lamido’s tenure as governor between 2007 and 2015.
The case, which came up before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, could not proceed because of the absence of the defence’s lead counsel.
