The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) is set to host the Lagos State Food Safety Conference and Exhibition 2026 on September 8 as part of efforts to strengthen food safety, prevent foodborne diseases, and protect public health.
The event, scheduled to be held at NECA House, Alausa-Ikeja, will bring together policymakers, public health experts, food scientists, regulators, food handlers, manufacturers, market associations, and consumers.
Themed “From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere,” the conference will feature keynote addresses, technical sessions, live cooking demonstrations, food testing exhibitions, and interactive workshops covering safe food handling, hazard analysis, packaging integrity, and prevention of foodborne illnesses.
According to LASCOPA General Manager/CEO, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., the conference is designed to promote collective responsibility for food safety across the entire food value chain, from production and processing to distribution and consumption.
Solebo said food safety should not be seen as the sole responsibility of government, urging residents, food vendors, manufacturers, and other stakeholders to embrace preventive measures that safeguard lives and strengthen the economy.
He disclosed that distinguished speakers at the event would include Dr. Adeniyi Adedayo Odugbemi, Global Director of Quality and Food Safety, and Dr. Nurah Oseni of the Food Technology Department, Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
The conference aligns with the Lagos State Government’s public health agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being and SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production.
Solebo reaffirmed LASCOPA’s commitment to strengthening consumer protection enforcement, public education, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure that only safe, wholesome, and properly labelled food products reach consumers in Lagos.
He also encouraged homemakers, restaurant operators, school food vendors, supermarket owners, agricultural producers, and other stakeholders to participate actively in the conference and exhibition.
