The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has recorded swift responses to multiple emergencies across Lagos between September 13 and 14, 2026, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid intervention and effective inter-agency coordination.
On Sunday, September 13, LASEMA’s Alpha Eagle Response Team responded to a truck breakdown at Olupese Bus Stop, inward Cappa, Oshodi. The truck, loaded with soft drinks, had developed a mechanical fault and obstructed traffic. In collaboration with LASTMA and the Nigeria Police, responders diverted traffic and deployed the Agency’s Super Metro heavy-duty equipment to recover the truck to a layby, restoring normal traffic flow. Later that evening, the LRT Tiger Squad responded to a road crash on the Third Mainland Bridge inward Obalende, where a commercial bus had overturned following a tyre burst. LASEMA paramedics and LASAMBUS personnel attended to the victims.
In the early hours of Monday, September 14, the LRT Lion Squad, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, responded to a fire outbreak at Adamo Bus Stop, Ikorodu. Preliminary findings indicated that an electrical spark ignited the roof of a hairdressing shop before spreading to adjoining shops. Three shops were affected, with goods and property worth millions of naira destroyed, although no death or injury was recorded. The fire was brought under control and extinguished, with dampening-down operations conducted to prevent a resurgence. At about 6:09 a.m., the Alpha Eagle Team also evacuated an empty tanker that had broken down on Ilupeju Road inward Cappa, restoring traffic movement with support from the Nigeria Police and the Agency’s Super Metro equipment.
Another fire incident was recorded at 19, Olatunde Onimole Street, near Bakery Bus Stop, Aguda, Surulere, where two shops dealing in furniture and provisions were completely razed. The cause of the fire was not immediately established. LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, the Nigeria Police and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps jointly brought the fire under control. No casualty was recorded, while dampening-down operations were carried out to prevent re-ignition.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the professionalism and coordination demonstrated by the various emergency responders. He reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening emergency management through continuous training, modern equipment and the decentralisation of LASEMA Response Units to improve response times. He also urged residents to maintain their vehicles, observe electrical safety standards and promptly report emergencies through the toll-free 767 and 112 emergency lines.
