The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Simplified IQ Labs Ltd to strengthen scientific and technology-driven approaches to noise pollution management and environmental compliance across Lagos State.
The agreement, signed at LASEPA’s conference room in Alausa, Ikeja, marks another step in the Lagos State Government’s efforts to deploy innovative digital solutions to improve environmental regulation, noise monitoring, public participation and enforcement.
The ceremony was attended by LASEPA General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, senior officials of the agency, and representatives of Simplified IQ Labs Ltd.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Ajayi described the partnership as a significant milestone in building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos through innovation and technology.
He said the collaboration reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening environmental governance by adopting transparent, efficient and digitally enabled regulatory systems.
According to him, the MoU will modernise noise pollution management through the deployment of digital tools for environmental reporting, compliance monitoring, documentation and enforcement.
Ajayi explained that the initiative aligns with the government’s vision of promoting environmental responsibility through education, stakeholder engagement and sustainable compliance rather than relying solely on punitive measures.
A key feature of the partnership is the introduction of mandatory digital environmental training and assessment for individuals and organisations found guilty of violating noise pollution regulations.
He noted that offenders will undergo compulsory training designed to improve awareness of environmental laws, encourage responsible environmental practices and promote long-term compliance.
The LASEPA boss further disclosed that the collaboration will establish a unified digital platform that will enable environmental violations to be reported, tracked, monitored and resolved more efficiently.
Participants who successfully complete the mandatory training and compliance process will receive verifiable digital certificates, while residents and communities will also have greater opportunities to report environmental infractions through the platform.
Describing the initiative as transformative, Ajayi said integrating digital technology into environmental enforcement would enhance transparency, accountability, compliance monitoring and public confidence in the agency’s operations.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Simplified IQ Labs Ltd, Sam Obi, said the partnership demonstrates the Lagos State Government’s commitment to embracing innovative solutions that strengthen environmental protection, particularly in the area of noise pollution, while promoting compliance through education, technology and strategic partnerships.
The Director of LASEPA’s Noise Control Unit, Mrs. Abosede Natufe, urged residents, businesses, institutions, religious organisations and other stakeholders to support the initiative by adopting responsible environmental practices and contributing to a cleaner, quieter and more sustainable Lagos.
