The Lagos State Government has sealed a property located at No. 5 Manuwa Street, Ikoyi, over the alleged discharge of untreated sewage into a canal through a non-functional sewage treatment plant.
The enforcement was carried out on Wednesday by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office following complaints from residents and investigations that confirmed the environmental violation.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a post on his official X handle.
According to Wahab, the property was sealed for the deliberate and continuous discharge of untreated sewage into a canal, using a moribund sewage treatment facility.
He added that the premises was also found to be in an unsanitary condition, resulting in offensive odours, environmental pollution and potential public health risks.
The commissioner said the enforcement action followed public complaints and subsequent investigations, which confirmed the reported infractions.
Wahab urged residents and property owners to adhere to approved wastewater management practices, warning that violators would face sanctions and possible prosecution under the state’s environmental laws.
He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enforcing environmental regulations and promoting a cleaner, safer and healthier environment across the state.
