The Lagos State Government is set to intensify enforcement along the Apapa and Lekki Port corridors following an assessment of traffic management and identified gaps in the current enforcement strategy.
The decision was reached at a strategy meeting chaired by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, on Tuesday at the Ministry of Transportation, Alausa. Giwa said additional traffic management personnel would be deployed to the Lekki Port corridor to improve compliance with the E-Call-Up system and ensure smoother movement of articulated trucks.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, disclosed that LASTMA officers would operate on a shift basis to ensure continuous presence along both corridors. He added that officers found underperforming would be redeployed immediately.
Musa also warned operators of illegal parks around the two ports to comply with the state’s operational guidelines, while the ministry urged truck operators and other stakeholders to voluntarily comply with the E-Call-Up system to reduce congestion. The government said pleas for clemency from violators after enforcement would not be entertained.
The meeting was attended by the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the agency’s Director of Operations, Controllers, Commanders Zebras and other senior officers overseeing the two corridors.
