The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving financial accountability, transparency and effective management of public resources through continuous training for Finance and Accounts Officers across its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Speaking at the opening of a three-day capacity-building programme in Ikeja, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, said accurate financial reporting remains essential to good governance and public trust.
The training focuses on strengthening officers’ knowledge of the National Chart of Accounts (NCOA) and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), with emphasis on proper classification, recording, reconciliation and reporting of government transactions.
Oluyomi urged participants to uphold the integrity of financial records, embrace digital financial systems and ensure timely and accurate reporting across their respective MDAs.
The State Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office, Mr. Muyiwa John Adetola, described sound financial management as a foundation of good governance, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve financial records and reporting.
The programme also featured technical sessions on IPSAS, accounting standards, NCOA, budget execution, internal audit, financial statements and external audit processes.
The training forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to strengthen public financial management, accountability and transparency across the state.
