The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has provided hearing aids to 15 persons with hearing impairment as part of efforts to promote inclusive healthcare and improve the quality of life of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the State.
The two-day intervention, held on September 17 and 18, 2026, at Nigerbell Hearing & Speech Centre, Agidingbi, Lagos, was organised in partnership with the specialised audiology facility. The beneficiaries underwent appropriate audiological assessment, hearing aid fitting and professional guidance to ensure that the devices met their individual hearing needs.
Speaking on the initiative, LASODA General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Omolade Sonubi, said access to hearing support was essential to reducing communication barriers and enabling persons with hearing impairment to participate more actively in education, employment and community activities. She noted that the intervention was part of the State Government’s broader commitment to providing PWDs with essential healthcare services and assistive devices.
Oyetunde-Lawal explained that the beneficiaries had undergone comprehensive audiological evaluations two months before the presentation of the devices. According to her, the assessment enabled professionals to determine the appropriate hearing aids based on the individual level of hearing loss. She added that LASODA would continue to pursue partnerships and programmes that address the healthcare, rehabilitation and assistive technology needs of persons with disabilities.
The LASODA management appreciated Nigerbell Hearing & Speech Centre for its technical support in conducting the assessments, selecting and fitting the hearing aids, and providing post-fitting guidance. The agency also called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, healthcare providers, development partners and other stakeholders to expand access to inclusive healthcare and assistive technology for PWDs.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying the hearing aids would improve their communication, confidence and ability to participate more fully in family, social and community activities.
