LASRERA, NBA Task Force Strengthen Collaboration to Protect Rights of Property Owners, Tenants, Others
The Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to sanitising the real estate sector through robust regulatory enforcement, enhanced public awareness and strategic partnerships aimed at promoting transparency, professionalism and accountability.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Gbolahan Toriola, gave this assurance on Tuesday while receiving members of the Task Force on the Illegal Practice of Law of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, during a courtesy visit to LASRERA Headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.
Speaking on behalf of LASRERA, Engr. Toriola described the visit as timely and significant, noting that it aligns with the Lagos State Government’s resolve to institutionalise best practices and strengthen regulatory oversight across the real estate sector.
He commended the NBA Task Force for its proactive efforts in promoting compliance with laws governing the preparation of legal instruments relating to land and property transactions. According to him, closer collaboration among professional bodies and regulatory agencies is critical to safeguarding the rights and interests of property owners, tenants, buyers, investors and other stakeholders within the real estate value chain.
The Permanent Secretary reiterated LASRERA’s dedication to driving reforms through effective regulation, sustained stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships that will foster sustainable growth, boost consumer confidence and ensure strict compliance with extant laws guiding real estate transactions in Lagos State.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Task Force on the Illegal Practice of Law, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, Mr. Moshood Abiola, said the visit was part of the Task Force’s ongoing stakeholder engagement aimed at strengthening consumer protection and promoting lawful real estate transactions across the state.
He explained that the engagement also seeks to encourage greater compliance with the Legal Practitioners Act and other applicable laws regulating the preparation of legal documents relating to land and property transactions.
Mr. Abiola stressed that only duly qualified legal practitioners are legally authorised to prepare instruments affecting interests in land, emphasising that adherence to this statutory requirement is essential to preserving the integrity of property transactions and protecting the interests of property owners, buyers, tenants, investors and the general public.
He further underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between the NBA Task Force and LASRERA in tackling illegal practices within the real estate sector, noting that stronger institutional partnerships would enhance regulatory compliance, curb fraudulent property transactions and reinforce public confidence in the Lagos property market.
