Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) have deepened their understanding of governance, public policy, digital innovation and human capital development during a series of high-level institutional engagements in Kigali, Rwanda.
The engagements formed part of the Academy’s International Policy Study Tour, designed to expose Fellows to global best practices and innovative governance models that can inform sustainable development in Nigeria.
During the study visit, the Fellows engaged with officials from Rwanda’s Ministry of ICT and Innovation, the Information Society Authority, the Ministry of Education and the Rwanda TVET Board.
Discussions focused on Rwanda’s strategic investments in technology, innovation and digital public infrastructure, as well as how these initiatives have improved public service delivery, strengthened government efficiency and supported inclusive economic growth.
The Fellows also examined Rwanda’s education and technical and vocational training reforms, gaining insights into how targeted policies can equip citizens with relevant technical skills, entrepreneurial capacity and knowledge needed to compete in an increasingly digital global economy.
As part of the tour, the Fellows visited the Parliament of Rwanda, where they held a high-level engagement with the Deputies Committee on Governance Affairs and Gender.
The interaction provided insights into Rwanda’s legislative processes, parliamentary oversight functions and institutional mechanisms for promoting transparency, accountability and effective governance.
Discussions also explored Rwanda’s approach to gender equality and inclusive representation within democratic institutions, highlighting the role of Parliament in shaping public policy, protecting democratic values and supporting national development.
Throughout the study tour, the Fellows reflected on the importance of strong institutions, visionary leadership and long-term policy planning in building resilient and prosperous societies.
The engagements reinforced the interconnected roles of effective governance, digital innovation, education and human capital development in achieving sustainable national progress.
The International Policy Study Tour is part of the LJLA’s commitment to developing future public-sector leaders by exposing Fellows to successful international models and practical approaches to governance.
Through these experiences, the Academy aims to equip its Fellows with broader perspectives and practical knowledge to develop contextually relevant solutions and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s governance and development.
