Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) recently participated in an engaging Fireside Chat with the Deputy Governor, Economic Policy Directorate of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Muhammed Sani Abdullahi (Dattijo), gaining valuable insights into the role of economic policy in driving sustainable development, institutional growth, and national prosperity.
Drawing from his extensive experience in public finance, economic management, and policymaking, Dattijo encouraged the Fellows to embrace systems thinking in leadership, stressing that lasting national transformation is anchored on visionary leadership, strong institutions, and sound policy decisions.
He urged the Fellows to look beyond immediate challenges and develop innovative solutions that create enduring value, noting that effective governance requires strategic thinking, institutional resilience, and evidence-based decision-making.
According to him, leaders must cultivate a long-term perspective while remaining adaptable to the realities of an increasingly dynamic global economy.
“Sustainable development requires leaders who can build strong teams, inspire collective ownership, and mobilise diverse stakeholders towards shared national objectives,” he said.
Speaking after the session, the Executive Secretary of LJLA, Mrs. Ayisat Agabaje-Okunade, described the Fireside Chat as another milestone in the Academy’s commitment to nurturing transformational leaders equipped with the knowledge, values, and strategic mindset needed to address complex governance and public policy challenges.
She noted that the Academy deliberately exposes its Fellows to accomplished leaders whose experiences in governance, policy, and institutional development broaden their perspectives, strengthen their leadership capacity, and prepare them for impactful public service.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Fellows, Kehinde Lawal expressed appreciation to the CBN Deputy Governor for sharing his wealth of experience and practical insights, noting that the session inspired participants to think more strategically, embrace collaboration, and pursue excellence in advancing sustainable development and nation-building.
The Fireside Chat forms part of LJLA’s continuous leadership development programme aimed at grooming a new generation of visionary public sector leaders committed to driving positive change in Lagos State and Nigeria.
