The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has called for stronger legal and rights protection mechanisms for people living with HIV and survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), warning that stigma, discrimination and denial of services could undermine HIV prevention and treatment efforts.
LSACA CEO, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, made the call at the conclusion of a two-day Legal and Rights Protection Training for GBV Focal Persons, Service Providers and Linkage Officers in Lagos.
She stressed the need for stronger coordination among government institutions, law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers and community organisations, particularly where GBV, HIV-related stigma and discrimination intersect.
Animashaun also urged stakeholders to strengthen referral, documentation and follow-up systems, while ensuring that individuals receive timely legal, psychosocial and health support. Facilitator Barrister Ochibili Chioma further emphasised confidentiality in handling sensitive information shared by people living with HIV and GBV survivors.
