A magnitude 5.0 earthquake has struck Tibet, adding a fresh challenge to rescue efforts following devastating flash floods in the Nepal-Tibet Himalayan region.
The tremor occurred at a depth of 14 kilometres at around 1:46 p.m. IST on Thursday, September 3.
The earthquake comes as rescue teams continue searching through mud, rocks and debris after the August 26 flash floods left thousands dead or missing. Landslides, damaged infrastructure and unstable terrain have continued to hamper rescue operations.
The latest seismic activity has raised further concerns in a Himalayan region already grappling with the aftermath of a major natural disaster.
