Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. says nuclear energy could be part of the solution to the country’s persistent power challenges, as the government looks to address some of the highest electricity prices in Southeast Asia.
Speaking after declaring a national energy emergency earlier this year, Marcos said nuclear power offers a potential long-term option to strengthen energy security, diversify the country’s energy mix, and reduce electricity costs for consumers.
The Philippines is exploring measures to expand reliable power generation as demand continues to grow.
