The Chairman, House Committee on Defence, has called for stronger collaboration between Nigeria’s defence sector and industrial institutions to enhance national security, economic resilience and regional stability.
The lawmaker made the call at the 34th Graduation Lecture of the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, for Course 34 of the 2025/2026 session.
The lecture, delivered by former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, was themed “Harnessing Industrial Capacity for Inclusive Growth and Regional Stability in Africa.”
The lawmaker described the theme as timely, noting that Africa’s security challenges are closely linked to economic resilience, technological advancement, industrial capacity, human capital development and strong institutions.
He commended the NDC for its strategic thinking, professional training and intellectual engagement, which he said continue to prepare military and civilian leaders to respond effectively to Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
He also congratulated the Commandant, faculty, staff and Course 34 graduands on completing the rigorous programme, urging them to apply their knowledge, strategic insight and professional networks to strengthen national security and improve policymaking.
The lawmaker stressed the need to deepen the connection between security and economic development, noting that a secure environment encourages investment and productivity, while a strong economy, indigenous industrial capacity and opportunities for young people provide a foundation for sustainable peace and stability.
He further urged the NDC to continue expanding its intellectual frontiers and strengthening the capacity of military and civilian leaders to tackle emerging security threats.
He congratulated the graduands and charged them to serve with knowledge, courage, integrity and commitment to the peace, security and prosperity of Nigeria and Africa.
