Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, has agreed to block teenagers from accessing its platforms at night and introduce a default two-hour daily usage limit across its apps.
The measures are part of a $16.7 billion settlement with U.S. states over allegations that Meta deliberately designed its platforms to keep young users engaged, misled the public about associated risks and unlawfully collected data from children under 13.
The settlement marks a major development in efforts to strengthen protections for young people on social media.
