Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully rescued 10 of the 11 National Examinations Council (NECO) candidates and teachers abducted by suspected ISWAP terrorists during an attack on Lassa Community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The rescue operation followed a swift military response after the terrorists stormed the Technical Secondary School on Monday morning while students were writing their NECO examinations.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the Theatre Command immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue mission involving ground troops, strike aircraft, and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI.
The military tracked the fleeing terrorists to the Daggu area, where troops engaged them in a fierce gun battle. The operation led to the successful rescue of 10 abducted candidates and teachers, all of whom were recovered unharmed and are currently receiving appropriate care and support.
Security forces also recovered seven motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists during the attack, significantly disrupting their escape.
The military, however, confirmed the loss of one Operation HADIN KAI soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), describing their sacrifice as a testament to the commitment of security personnel and local volunteers working to restore peace in the North-East.
Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining abducted victim and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Operation HADIN KAI said security has been reinforced around vulnerable communities and schools, while operations continue across the region to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent further attacks.
The military urged residents to remain vigilant, provide credible intelligence to security agencies, and avoid spreading unverified information as security operations continue.
