The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has inspected its C-130H aircraft, NAF 913, currently undergoing Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) in Portugal as part of efforts to facilitate its early return to operational service.
The inspection followed the deployment of a high-level delegation by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, to OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal, where the aircraft is undergoing extensive maintenance.
The delegation, led by the Chief of Aircraft Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Olufemi Samson Ogunsina, and accompanied by the Commander of the 631 Aircraft Maintenance Depot, Air Commodore Eric Kpokpogri, assessed the progress of the maintenance work and held strategic discussions with OGMA management.
According to the Nigerian Air Force spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the visit was aimed at ensuring the maintenance programme progresses on schedule while adhering to international standards of safety, reliability and airworthiness.
Ejodame explained that although the aircraft encountered unforeseen transit challenges before arriving at the maintenance facility, the Air Force remains committed to completing the comprehensive maintenance process in line with global best practices.
He noted that the C-130H aircraft plays a vital role in Nigeria’s national and regional airlift operations, making its timely return to service a strategic priority.
Beyond the ongoing maintenance, the delegation also explored opportunities for deeper collaboration with OGMA and other industry partners in areas such as long-term fleet support, technical training, logistics assistance and future aircraft sustainment.
The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation in emerging strategic airlift programmes as part of the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to building a modern, technologically advanced and mission-ready force.
