The Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) has distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to victims of disasters and violent incidents across Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas.
The beneficiaries were affected by bandit attacks, communal and land clashes, flooding, fires and other emergencies that resulted in the loss of lives, livelihoods and property.
The relief package includes bags of rice and beans, cartons of pasta, vegetable oil, mats, blankets, salt and other essential items.
Speaking during the distribution exercise at the Chun-Mada Palace in Akwanga, NASEMA Director-General, Benjamin Akwash, said the intervention was facilitated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on behalf of the Federal Government to cushion the hardship faced by affected communities.
Akwash said the intervention followed reports of attacks, clashes and other disasters in the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, adding that the government’s responsibility includes protecting lives and property while promoting the welfare and security of citizens.
The North-Central Zonal Representative of NEMA, Audu Yohanna, said the Federal Government had responded to the situation by releasing the relief materials and assured those who were not reached during the exercise that additional support would be provided.
The Chairman of Akwanga LGA, Safiyanu Isah Andaha, represented by his deputy, Basau Ibrahim Shauibu, commended NEMA and NASEMA for the intervention, while the Chun-Mada, His Royal Highness Samson Gamuyare, urged the agencies to provide proactive support before disasters occur.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the assistance and pledged to use the relief items appropriately.
