The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says it has completed the enumeration of all 8,809 wards across Nigeria, providing detailed data to support better planning and evidence-based governance.
Statistician-General of the Federation and NBS Chief Executive Officer, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, disclosed this at the first Bi-Annual Meeting of the National Consultative Committee on Statistics in Kano.
He said the exercise, conducted under the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, is the first of its kind in Nigeria and is designed to provide timely and disaggregated information for development planning.
Adeniran noted that the country’s statistical landscape is evolving, with growing access to digital, telecommunications, financial and geospatial data. He stressed the need to make such information accessible, reliable and useful for decision-making.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, also emphasised that credible statistics are essential for identifying citizens’ needs, allocating resources effectively and measuring the impact of government policies.
The meeting, themed “Unlocking Data Dividends for National Development: Advancing Administrative Statistics and Data-Driven Governance,” brings stakeholders together to strengthen the use of data in national planning and governance.
