The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has warned that it may suspend the operations of Royal Air Maroc in Nigeria over alleged persistent violations of passenger rights and failure to comply with consumer protection regulations.
The warning was issued by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, who accused the airline of repeatedly failing to improve its treatment of Nigerian passengers despite previous sanctions.
According to Achimugu, Royal Air Maroc has consistently recorded cases involving delayed baggage, poor passenger handling, and slow resolution of customer complaints, with many issues only resolved after regulatory intervention.
He also alleged that the airline’s Country Manager, Ahmed Boussouf, repeatedly ignored invitations to regulatory meetings, often sending representatives without the authority to make decisions or resolve outstanding complaints.
Achimugu further claimed that the airline displayed a dismissive attitude during a recent engagement with the authority, prompting the NCAA to consider tougher enforcement measures.
The aviation regulator said it is pushing for the suspension of the airline’s operations in Nigeria until it demonstrates a commitment to complying with the country’s aviation regulations and improving customer service.
The NCAA reiterated that international airlines operating under Bilateral Air Service Agreements must uphold Nigeria’s consumer protection standards and ensure passengers receive fair treatment.
Royal Air Maroc was among the airlines sanctioned by the NCAA in December 2024 for breaching consumer protection regulations and later paid the prescribed penalty in September 2025. As of the time of reporting, the airline had not issued a public response to the latest allegations.
