The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), CDC Foundation, Gates Foundation and other partners, is strengthening Nigeria’s capacity for laboratory-based integrated disease surveillance.
As part of the initiative, a Multiplex Bead Assay (MBA) Laboratory has been established at the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja to improve the detection and monitoring of infectious diseases.
In Lagos, a team of U.S. CDC experts also spent two weeks at the MBA Laboratory of the Central Public Health Laboratory, providing hands-on training on MBA techniques and transferring expertise in bead coupling technology.
The initiative is expected to enhance Nigeria’s laboratory capacity and improve its ability to detect and respond to emerging and infectious diseases.
