The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed over 329,865 kilogrammes of illicit drugs valued at about ₦301 billion in Lagos.
The court-ordered destruction took place on Monday at Navy Town, Ojo, and involved narcotics seized in concluded cases and abandoned consignments.
The drugs included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, ephedrine, khat leaves, tramadol, codeine syrup and various strains of cannabis, including Canadian Loud and skunk.
The seizures were made during operations conducted across Lagos between April 2025 and May 2026. The NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command accounted for 246,864.535 kilogrammes, while specialised units operating at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Tincan and Apapa, the Marine Command and a Special Operations Unit contributed 83,001.05 kilogrammes.
Speaking at the destruction site, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), said the exercise demonstrated Nigeria’s determination to protect citizens and disrupt criminal drug networks.
Marwa said intercepting the consignments would help protect communities from addiction, reduce healthcare costs, safeguard the workforce and disrupt the financing of organised crime and violent extremism.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the destruction as a reminder of the scale of the threat posed by illicit drugs and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to combating drug abuse.
The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said the illicit drug trade was closely linked to the financing of violent non-state actors, including bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers and terrorists.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, represented by the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Mustapha, also pledged continued military support for the NDLEA’s anti-narcotics operations.
