The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted illicit drugs worth over ₦10 billion at Lagos ports and airports, while arresting suspected drug kingpins linked to local and international trafficking networks.
Among those arrested is 55-year-old businessman Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu, who was allegedly caught attempting to export 3.3kg of cocaine concealed in cartons of food items destined for the United Kingdom. Investigations also led to the arrest of several cargo agents and another suspect before authorities identified Onuigbo as the alleged mastermind.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives arrested Emmanuella Chukwu-Edo, 31, after intercepting 2.8kg of “Loud,”a synthetic strain of cannabis, imported from the United States through the Lagos airport.
The agency also seized 2.24 million pills of Tapentadol 250mg, valued at over ₦2.2 billion, from a shipment that arrived from India, while another consignment of tramadol concealed in black soap containers and bound for the UK was intercepted.
At the Apapa Seaport, officers uncovered 2,388.5kg of Canadian Loud hidden inside three imported vehicles, with the seized drugs estimated to be worth over ₦7.1 billion.
Beyond drug seizures, NDLEA operatives recovered 401 rounds of military-grade ammunition concealed in kegs of palm oil during separate operations in Kaduna and Katsina States, with the suspects handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the operations and urged continued vigilance in the agency’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
