Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has called on the military and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue residents of his constituency who remain in captivity following the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, the lawmaker appealed to security operatives to shift attention to Borno South, where dozens of residents are still being held by kidnappers and insurgents.
His appeal comes after 44 pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State regained their freedom following a coordinated multi-agency security operation that ended more than 50 days of captivity.
Commending the security agencies for the successful operation, Ndume urged them to replicate the same commitment in Borno State.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the military to shift their attention now to my senatorial district and help us get these people back,” he said.
The senator disclosed that 42 people, including children, are currently being held captive in his senatorial district.
He added that more than 30 residents of Lassa were recently abducted, while over 50 others remain in captivity in another location.
According to Ndume, although some of the more than 400 abducted persons had regained their freedom, many others are still being held by their abductors.
The lawmaker urged security agencies to sustain ongoing operations to secure the release of all remaining victims and restore peace to communities affected by insurgency and kidnapping in Borno State.
