The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has appealed the Confederation of African Football’s decision to annul Edo Queens’ victory over Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the WAFU-B final.
Edo Queens won the September 5 final 4-1 on penalties after the match ended 2-2 in regulation time and were subsequently declared champions.
However, CAF ruled that the game should have proceeded to extra time before the penalty shoot-out, in line with the competition regulations.
The NFF argued that Edo Queens should not be punished for an error by match officials, noting that the players simply followed the referee’s instructions and participated in the shoot-out in good faith.
The federation is asking CAF’s Appeals Committee to overturn the decision and uphold Edo Queens’ penalty-shootout victory.
