The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has called on Nigerians to celebrate the achievements of fellow citizens making remarkable contributions across the globe, urging the public to highlight the nation’s success stories alongside its challenges.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made the appeal during a working visit to two prominent Nigerians in the United Kingdom, whose recent appointments have marked significant milestones in public service.
Among those she visited was Councillor Christopher Adegoke, who recently became the first person from an ethnic minority background to serve as Chairman of the Nottinghamshire County Council since its establishment in 1889.
She also met Rosaline Ogunro, the newly inaugurated Mayor of Islington, congratulating both leaders for their outstanding accomplishments and describing their achievements as evidence of the excellence, resilience, and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora.
Receiving the NiDCOM delegation, Mayor Ogunro expressed appreciation for the visit and encouraged Nigerians abroad to continue projecting a positive image of the country wherever they reside.
Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the exceptional academic accomplishments of Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University in Russia with an impressive 4.90/5.00 CGPA, and Dr. Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the Valedictorian and Best Graduating Student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland.
She described their achievements as a reflection of the brilliance, determination, and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths, noting that such successes continue to enhance Nigeria’s international reputation.
Commending all four Nigerians for making the country proud, Dabiri-Erewa urged other Nigerians in the diaspora to strive for excellence while serving as worthy ambassadors of the nation.
In a statement signed by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Commission reiterated that although every nation faces challenges, Nigerians should deliberately promote the positive impact their compatriots are making around the world.
Dabiri-Erewa also highlighted the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms and infrastructure initiatives under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling on Nigerians abroad to support national development through investments, skills transfer, expertise, and global partnerships.
She reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to recognising and engaging outstanding Nigerians in the diaspora whose achievements continue to project the country’s image positively on the global stage.
