Nigeria has recorded a significant leap in aviation safety performance, achieving a 91.4% score in the latest audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Announcing the development in Abuja, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, described the result as a historic milestone for the country’s aviation sector.
He noted that the previous audit conducted in 2023 placed Nigeria at 70%, a rating considered below global expectations and one that affected the international perception of Nigerian airlines.
Keyamo attributed the sharp improvement to targeted reforms and sustained support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside coordinated efforts by aviation agencies and industry stakeholders.
According to him, the new rating represents the highest safety score Nigeria has recorded since independence in 1960, marking a major turnaround in regulatory compliance and operational standards.
The audit outcome reflects years of deliberate policy actions aimed at strengthening oversight, closing safety gaps, and enhancing the overall credibility of Nigeria’s aviation industry on the global stage.
