Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for collective action by African leaders to address recurring xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks against Africans and other nationals in South Africa.
Shettima stated this while presenting Nigeria’s position on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union.

He warned that the attacks undermine African solidarity, unity and peaceful coexistence, urging the continent’s leaders to take decisive steps to tackle the situation.
On the wider security challenges facing Africa, Shettima expressed Nigeria’s support for the adoption of the Luanda Action Plan as a practical roadmap for strengthening conflict prevention across the continent.
He stressed that preventing conflicts was cheaper and more sustainable than managing them after they had erupted.
