Nigeria and Germany are set to strengthen their longstanding diplomatic and economic partnership as both countries hold high-level bilateral consultations in Abuja on Wednesday.
The meeting will feature Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann David Wadephul, who are expected to discuss ways of expanding cooperation in trade, investment, renewable energy, climate action, security, education, healthcare, agriculture, migration, digital innovation, and technology.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the consultations will provide an opportunity to review the progress of existing bilateral agreements while identifying new areas of collaboration that will enhance economic growth and sustainable development.
The discussions are also expected to focus on attracting greater German investment into Nigeria’s priority sectors, promoting vocational education and skills development, advancing green industrialisation, and strengthening cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to deepening relations with Germany, describing the European nation as one of Nigeria’s foremost strategic partners in Europe. It expressed optimism that the visit would further consolidate the strong ties between both countries and open new opportunities for mutual prosperity, regional stability, and collective efforts to address global challenges through dialogue and partnership.
