Nigeria’s national football teams are set for a major commercial boost after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed a new multi-year kit sponsorship agreement with Adidas worth $8.5 million annually.
The deal, reportedly valued at more than ₦11.9 billion per year, brings an end to Nigeria’s 11-year partnership with Nike and becomes the highest-valued national team kit sponsorship agreement in Africa.
Outgoing NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau confirmed the agreement shortly before announcing his resignation.
Under the new arrangement, Adidas will provide the NFF with $4.5 million in direct annual cash, $4 million worth of kits and equipment, as well as 20 per cent retail royalties.
The agreement represents a significant increase from Nigeria’s previous Nike deal, which provided approximately $500,000 in annual cash and $1 million worth of kits.
The federation had reportedly faced growing financial and logistical pressures as the number of national teams and international competitions increased, making the existing kit allocation increasingly inadequate.
Nigeria’s return to Adidas also marks a reunion with the German sportswear company, which supplied the Super Eagles’ kits during the country’s historic 1994 FIFA World Cup debut.
The final Nike kits will continue to be used during the remaining period of the existing arrangement, before Nigeria officially transitions to Adidas’ iconic Three Stripes.
