Nigeria has been selected to host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ordinary General Assembly in November 2026, with CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe describing the country as a “proud football nation.”
Speaking at a press briefing in Johannesburg, South Africa, Motsepe announced that the annual gathering of African football leaders will take place in Abuja, bringing together representatives from CAF’s 54 member associations to discuss the future of football on the continent.
According to him, CAF is committed to ensuring that every African nation benefits from its football development programmes and investments, noting that hosting the General Assembly in Nigeria reflects the organisation’s goal of strengthening football across all member countries.
Motsepe also expressed disappointment over Nigeria’s absence from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the tournament felt incomplete without the Super Eagles and other African football powerhouses like Cameroon.
The CAF General Assembly serves as the organisation’s highest decision-making body, where member associations deliberate on governance, competitions, and key policies shaping the future of African football.
