The Nigerian Army has detected and commenced efforts to counter an attempted unauthorised access to its official X account, formerly known as Twitter.
The incident occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, and is being treated as a cybersecurity breach. The Army said immediate technical and protective measures have been activated to secure the account, prevent further unauthorised access and protect the integrity of information shared on the platform.
The Army assured the public, media organisations and other stakeholders that efforts are ongoing to fully secure the account and restore exclusive administrative control.
It urged members of the public to disregard any suspicious, misleading or unverified content published from the affected account, noting that such posts should not be regarded as the official position of the Nigerian Army.
The military also advised the public and media to verify information through its other official communication channels until the incident is fully resolved.
