The Nigerian Army has announced a sweeping reshuffle of its senior leadership, with new appointments across key operational, command, training, and administrative positions as part of efforts to strengthen national security and boost operational effectiveness.
In a statement, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the redeployments were approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to enhance the Army’s capacity to tackle emerging security challenges nationwide.
Among the major appointments, Major General WM Dangana takes over as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, while Major General EI Okoro becomes GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Operation DELTA SAFE.
Other key changes include the appointment of Major General JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Brigadier General OM Oyekola as Acting Military Secretary (Army), and Major General SA Emmanuel as Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, underscoring the Army’s growing focus on technology-driven security operations.
The reshuffle also affects military institutions, with new commandants appointed to the National Defence College, Depot Nigerian Army, Armour School, School of Supply and Transport, and TRADOC, alongside fresh leadership for Post Housing Development Limited and Defence Properties Limited.
Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence placed in them through professionalism, innovation, and unwavering commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and addressing evolving security threats.
