Nigerian faith advocate Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack has successfully completed a 144-hour marathon reading of the Holy Bible in a bid to set a new Guinness World Record.
The six-day challenge ended on Monday after Habibat read the Scriptures continuously in line with Guinness World Records guidelines, which allow only limited breaks for essential needs.
Tagged “144 Hours in the Word,” the initiative was aimed at inspiring Christians to develop a deeper commitment to Bible study while promoting the importance of God’s Word.
According to organisers, Habibat began preparing for the record attempt in June 2022, dedicating years to spiritual discipline, consistency, and endurance before embarking on the challenge.
The marathon reading started on June 22 at the Novotel in Port Harcourt and concluded successfully on June 29 under official Guinness World Records regulations.
Throughout the event, she received overwhelming support from family, friends, church members, and well-wishers, both at the venue and online, as digital timers tracked her progress.
Habibat, a member of Summit Bible Church, Port Harcourt, was commended by the church’s Senior Pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe, who described the attempt as more than a quest for a world record.
He said the project was a faith-driven mission intended to honour God’s Word and encourage believers around the world to engage more deeply with the Scriptures.
Her attempt follows the achievement of fellow Nigerian Samson Ajao, who was recognised by Guinness World Records in 2024 after setting the record for the longest marathon reading aloud with an impressive 215 hours.
Habibat’s feat will now undergo the official verification process by Guinness World Records before a final decision on the record is announced.
