The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast three days of widespread cloudiness, thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall across the country from Wednesday, August 5, to Friday, August 7, 2026.
In its latest weather outlook, NiMet said northern states including Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa are expected to experience thunderstorms with moderate rainfall, while Kaduna and other parts of the North-East are likely to witness increased rainfall later in the day.
The agency also predicted thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall across the North-Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Kwara and Niger states.
For the southern region, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions with light to moderate rainfall across the South-South, South-East and parts of the South-West, including Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo states, with rainfall expected to intensify in the afternoons and evenings throughout the forecast period.
NiMet advised residents to remain cautious, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms in affected areas. The agency urged the public to secure loose objects, avoid sheltering under trees during storms and take necessary safety precautions to minimise the risk of damage and injuries.
