The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has alerted security agencies to an alleged attempt by a group to convene an unauthorised emergency delegates meeting outside its constitutional framework.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mannir Bature, the association disclosed that it had uncovered “unauthorised activities” by individuals claiming to act on its behalf.
According to the NMA, no Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM) has been approved by the Office of the Secretary-General or any legally recognised organ of the association.
The body emphasised that its constitution does not permit any individual or group to independently summon such a meeting, describing the move as a clear violation of its established procedures.
Declaring the planned gathering illegal, the association urged its members nationwide to disregard any such invitation.
It also issued a warning to those behind the move, stressing that any attempt to use the NMA’s name to incite disorder or carry out unlawful activities would attract sanctions in line with its constitution and other applicable laws.
The association further called on security agencies to intervene and prevent any actions that could threaten peace and stability within the organisation.
Reaffirming its commitment to due process, the NMA advised members to avoid participating in unauthorised activities and to uphold the integrity and unity of the association.
