Nollywood actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem has died after battling breast cancer, the Ogun State chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has announced.
Her death was announced on Tuesday by her colleague and TAMPAN Ogun State Executive Governor, Owolabi Ajasa. Before her death, Kareem had publicly appealed for financial assistance and prayers to help fund her treatment, revealing that her family had spent heavily on her medical care.
In a video shared alongside the announcement, the actress appealed to Nigerians to support her battle with the disease, noting that she had two young children. TAMPAN expressed appreciation to colleagues, fans and well-wishers who contributed financially, offered prayers and provided moral support during her illness.
The association described her death as a painful and irreparable loss, while praying for strength for her family, colleagues and loved ones. Kareem’s death comes barely a week after the Yoruba film industry mourned veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who also died after battling stage-four cancer.
