The Nollywood community came together in Lagos for a deeply emotional Service of Songs in honour of the late actor, Alexx Ekubo. Held at The Monarch Event Center in Lekki, the gathering brought together colleagues, friends, and loved ones to celebrate the life, impact, and enduring legacy of one of the industry’s most beloved stars following his recent passing.
In a touching tribute to Alexx’s renowned sense of style and vibrant personality, attendees arrived dressed in elegant all-white outfits. Prominent figures including Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, IK Ogbonna, Ini Edo, and Yemi Alade shared heartfelt memories, reflecting on the actor’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for those around him.
One of the most emotional moments of the evening came when IK Ogbonna delivered a tearful tribute, recounting cherished memories of his brotherhood with Alexx. Struggling to hold back tears, he spoke about their deep bond and the pain of saying goodbye to a friend he considered family.
Nancy Isime described Alexx as “a good man,” recalling how his positive spirit and encouraging words left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Music star Yemi Alade also shared a touching testimony, revealing that Alexx played a pivotal role in motivating her to continue pursuing her music career during a challenging period. She further disclosed that he featured in her hit music video, Johnny, without requesting any payment.
Pastor Ituah Ighodalo offered prayers and words of comfort for Alexx’s widow, Anwuli, and the grieving family, bringing solace to attendees during the solemn ceremony.
The Service of Songs marks the beginning of Alexx Ekubo’s funeral rites. A wake is scheduled for June 17 at his family residence in Arochukwu, Abia State, followed by the funeral service and interment on June 18. In honour of his colourful spirit and legacy, the family has requested that all attendees observe a strict all-white dress code throughout the funeral ceremonies.
Alexx Ekubo was widely celebrated for his remarkable contributions to Nollywood, including his acclaimed performance in the culturally significant Igbo apprenticeship drama, Afamefuna: An Nwa Boi Story. He passed away on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40. His family confirmed that he died from complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
Though gone too soon, Alexx Ekubo’s legacy of love, kindness, excellence, and inspiration continues to resonate across the entertainment industry and beyond.
