Thousands of football fans gathered in Oslo on Monday to give the Norwegian national team a heroes’ welcome following their historic run to the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.
An estimated 90,000 supporters filled the square in front of the Royal Palace to celebrate the team’s remarkable campaign despite their 2-1 extra-time defeat to England in the quarter-finals in Miami.
The players were greeted with loud cheers as they performed the popular “Viking Row” celebration alongside jubilant fans.
Crown Prince Haakon joined the celebrations by leading supporters with a drum, having also travelled to Miami to watch Norway’s quarter-final clash.
Captain Martin Ødegaard expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, describing the reception as an unforgettable moment and a reflection of the country’s pride in the team’s achievements.
Meanwhile, star striker Erling Haaland, who finished the tournament with seven goals, returned to Norway earlier in the day but was unable to attend the public celebration due to onward travel commitments.
Norway’s quarter-final finish marks the country’s best-ever performance at the FIFA World Cup, earning widespread praise from supporters across the nation.
