The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the temporary suspension of its Kajola–Apapa (BAT) passenger train service for 21 days, beginning July 6, to facilitate scheduled maintenance of its locomotives and coaches.
According to the corporation, the final passenger service on the route will operate on July 3, after which maintenance activities will commence to improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of train operations.
The NRC assured the public that the suspension will not affect freight services, as cargo operations to and from the Apapa Port Complex, as well as other train services on the narrow and standard gauge networks, will continue as scheduled throughout the maintenance period.
To reduce the impact on commuters, the corporation encouraged passengers to make use of its Lagos Mass Transit Train (LMTT) services, which operate every weekday from Monday to Friday.
Under the existing timetable, morning services depart Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. for Iddo, while return trips leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola.
NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, said the maintenance exercise forms part of the corporation’s commitment to delivering safer, more reliable, and efficient rail services nationwide.
He thanked passengers for their understanding and continued support, assuring them that normal operations on the Kajola–Apapa route will resume after the maintenance programme is completed.
